'Proud moment for Sudeepians': Kiccha Sudeep fans celebrate Vikrant Rona's Oscars 2023 inclusion

Kiccha Sudeep might be a reclusive superstar but his fans ensure that he remains in the news at all times. The 51-year-old actor, who recently concluded his ninth straight gig as the host of the reality show Bigg Boss Kannada, is back in the arclights as his most recent endeavour Vikrant Rona enters the Oscars buzz. The Anup Bhandari magnum opus, in which Sudeep played the titular role, is among the 301 feature films that stand eligible for the upcoming edition of the Oscars.

Vikrant Rona joins the party along with fellow Kannada release Kantara and 10 other Indian features, including presumed contenders such as RRR, The Kashmir Files, and Gangubai Kathiawadi. The robust list also includes two Indian documentaries in the form of Shaunak Sen's All That Breathes and The Elephant Whisperers by Kartiki Gonsalves. 

And for all the many million Kiccha Sudeep fans, the news of Vikrant Rona making the cut has brought along a lot of joy and jubilation and social media is currently abuzz with congratulatory messages from the 'Sudeepians'. Both Vikrant Rona and Kiccha Sudeep have been trending on Twitter ever since the Oscars' list of eligible films was unveiled. 

"Feeling emotional and proud Thank you @KicchaSudeep boss for always making us proud!" wrote one user, echoing the sentiments of all the Kiccha fans right now. 

Some of the tweets also acknowledged Kantara's achievement in the same regard. Rishab Shetty's film, as revealed by the actor-director himself and Hombale Films, has landed two Oscars qualifications in the form of Best Picture and Best Actor and one would hope that either of the two films (Vikrant Rona and Kantara) makes a significant impact at the 2023 Oscars. 

Earlier today, following the announcement, Vikrant Rona director took to social media to share his excitement and in the same vein, he would congratulate his team on the upcoming prospects. Anup would also share that he felt happy to see Kantara, too, make the list. Sudeep is yet to respond to the news. 

Written and directed by Anup Bhandari, Vikrant Rona is a 3D action thriller which also stars Nirup Bhandari, Neetha Ashok and Jacqueline Fernandez. Set in a world similar to Bhandari's debut venture RangiTaranga, Vikrant Rona follows the titular character's thrilling pursuits to unravel a mystery that is speculated to have 'supernatural' elements associated with it. The film received mixed reviews from both critics and audiences but Sudeep's central performance, along with the production design and music, were praised.
