Project K, director Nag Ashwin’s magnum opus, is getting bigger and better by the day. The film has a stellar cast comprising Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani and is aiming for a mid-2024 release, as per sources. Santhosh Narayanan scores the music for the sci-fi saga produced by Chalasani Aswani Dutt under Vyjayanthi Movies.
The futuristic thriller was in the news earlier this week for being the first Indian film to confirm its presence in the upcoming edition of San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). That’s not all. In an attempt to expand Project K’s universe, the makers dropped the first set of free film merchandise for fans this evening - a shirt available across multiple sizes, bearing the text ‘What is Project K?’
And guess what? The grey-coloured shirt, where two characters punch their fists, was sold in just under four minutes, the production house announced. “First Drop 'The Force' is SOLD OUT in just 4 minutes. Get ready for the next drop,” they tweeted, while also sharing the video where the shirts were getting ready to be dispatched.
Djordje Stojiljkovic cranks the camera for the film for which veteran filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao is the creative advisor. Kamal Haasan is reportedly playing the antagonist in the thriller and will be paid a handsome remuneration of approximately Rs 20-30 crore. Saswata Chatterjee is believed to be cast in a crucial role as well.
While the plan is to release the film in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, English and Kannada initially, makers will take a call for other languages closer to the release date. Project K is all the more special for it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the production house and is being made under a budget of Rs 500 crore. Nag Ashwin, its director, earlier helmed films like Mahanati and Yevade Subrahmanyam.
