The buzz around Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan playing the main antagonist in the upcoming since-fiction Project K is growing louder by the day. Several industry sources hint that Kamal has allotted bulk dates to director Nag Ashwin in August for the movie. However, an official confirmation is awaited.
And it's also said that Kamal is likely to draw a salary of a whopping Rs 100 crore for his role in Project K. If that's true, then Kamal will become the highest-paid actor to play a villain role in India. "Huge buzz that #KamalHaasan will play antagonist pitched against #Prabhas for #ProjectK! If it is true, @ikamalhaasan will get a record remuneration for the film which also has @SrBachchan , @deepikapadukone @DishPatani and is directed by @nagashwin7," tweeted senior film journalist Sreedhar Pillai.
While Kamal Haasan is no stranger to portraying negative roles, having delivered remarkable performances as a villain in movies such as Aalavandhan and Dasavatharam, Project K marks a departure from his previous endeavours as he takes on the role of a villain in another hero's film.
Kamal even turned down when he was offered the main antagonist role Pakshiraja in director Shankar 2.0, starring Superstar Rajinikanth . The role later went to Bollywood star Akshay Kumar.
Project K stands as director Nag Ashwin's ambitious venture following his impressive directorial debut with Mahanati (2018), a biopic on the legendary actress Savitri. Project K, however, ventures into uncharted territory, and its ensemble cast boasts some of the biggest names in Indian cinema. Besides Prabhas, the film also features Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone. Vyjayanthi Movies is producing the project, with filming progressing rapidly on the futuristic sets at Ramoji Film City.
The film is being shot in Telugu and Hindi. And it will be dubbed in other major Indian languages. It is expected to arrive in cinemas early next year.
