Directed by Rohit Padaki, Uttarakaanda, which stars Shivarajkumar in a pivotal role, had been paused owing to the actor’s ongoing cancer treatment.

In November 2024, when the production house KRG Studios began work on a new film directed by Rohit Padaki, with Yuva Rajkumar in the lead, called Ekka, the buzz was that their earlier collaboration, Uttarakaanda, had been shelved. Karthik Gowda of KRG Studios had, back then, refuted this speculation, stating that the film was still on track and that it had been paused because Shivarajkumar, who has a pivotal role, was in the midst of cancer treatment at the time. Also, leading man Daali Dhananjaya had a prior commitment on his next with Badava Rascal director Shankar Guru, called Anna From Mexico.
Given that Uttarakaanda has a massive ensemble cast on board, including Rangayana Raghu, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Diganth, Chaithra J Achar, Bhavana, Aishwarya Rajesh, Vijay Babu, Yogaraj Bhat, among others, scheduling conflicts were also to blame for the film to be paused. Speaking at the muhurtha of #Sanchii01, KRG Studios’ next production in association with Priya Sudeep’s Supriyanvi Productions to launch Sanchith Sanjeev, Karthik yet again reaffirmed that Uttarakaanda would resume shooting shortly.
“Shivarajkumar is returning to India on January 26, but he’s been advised rest for at least a month. Once he is fit to resume work and begins allocating dates, we will have a clearer picture as to when to head back to the set of Uttarakaanda. Meanwhile, the plan is to wrap up Ekka by March and then finish up Uttarakaanda,” said Karthik, adding that he’s hopeful of bringing Ekka, Sanchii01 and Uttarakaanda to theatres in 2025.

Uttarakaanda was meant to mark actress Ramya’s return to acting, but she excused herself from the project shortly before the team went on floors. In fact, she had even attended the film’s muhurtha, with her voice featuring in the title launch teaser. Prior to this, Ramya was said to be making her comeback with her home production Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye, but then she backtracked and gave the role to Siri Ravikumar.
