Priyanka Chopra: If Indian filmmakers or South Asian talent want support from me, I will try and find a way to do it

Priyanka Chopra Jonas claims she didn't receive any assistance when she moved to Hollywood, but she wants to serve as a platform for others to lean on when it comes to showcasing the work of South Asian and her own country's artists.

To demonstrate the "power" of South Asian talent, Priyanka hosted screenings of RRR, which won the Best Original Song Academy Award for Naatu Naatu, and India's official Oscar submission, Chhello Show. She also hosted a pre-Oscars party for South Asian talent.

Priyanka told PTI that she believes it is now her duty to be able to assist others who seek her assistance because she was unable to do it herself. It's always pleasant when one first enters a field and someone offers to make a call for them. The actor has that today with business acquaintances she has developed connections with, whether in Bollywood or Hollywood. Being able to assist others in realising their aspirations makes her feel good.

The 40-year-old claimed that the purpose of hosting the pre-Oscars party for South Asian performers was to demonstrate that there are many of them. They demand a position of authority since there are 400 of them.

Through her production company, Purple Pebble Pictures, Priyanka stated that she now hopes to become the shoulder for people to jump off of. She truly wants to make sure that she can help South Asian filmmakers gain attention because she recognises the power of the platform that she has.

A decade ago, the actor relocated to the US to pursue a career in the country's film business. Following the release of her debut single, In My City, in 2012, she went on to star in the television series Quantico, portray the lead antagonist in the film Baywatch, make an appearance in The Matrix Resurrections, and will soon be seen in the spy drama Citadel on Prime Video as well as the romantic comedy Love Again.

The actor claimed that when she first moved to Los Angeles, her Indian business colleagues would visit, and she could sense their desires. She would establish the links. Priyanka would call a friend and introduce herself. Then she understood that she was capable of doing it. The actor then wanted to go about doing it deliberately. She began ensuring that if someone requested her support—especially South Asian or Indian filmmakers—she would make an effort to make it happen.

But for Priyanka, breaking into the American film industry was not simple. In addition to carving out a space for herself in a novel setting, the performer claimed that she also had to devise a method for approaching a scene without being dramatic.

Many directors would approach her when she first began performing in America and say, "Throw it away." It was a term she was unfamiliar with. The actor was so perplexed, and she didn't want to appear foolish. She asked one of her fellow performers what that meant, and they said, "Don't say it with any emotion."

However, as a people, Indians have a theatrical culture. Priyanka frequently converses while using her hands. Drama is a common theme in Bollywood films. They are instructed in this way. She spent a month in India attending an acting school. Navrasas and Bhav, or expressing one's face and emotion, were taught to them. But it was the reverse in the US, and she added that she is now able to flip between the two zones since she has worked so hard.
