Celebrated director Priyadarshan visited Kolkata recently. He kept it a private affair. He came to the city and stayed for two days. He went to Boral. He also met Sandip Ray at Satyajit Ray’s Bishop Lefroy Road. Director Aniruddha Roychoudhury was the only person who knew of the visit. Priyadarshan spent time with him in Kolkata.
Aniruddha told the media, “Sunday was the off day for our shooting of my film Dear Ma. He came to Kolkata on that day. We had fried rice, lamb, Asian, and continental dishes and chatted.”
Aniruddha said that Priyadarshan long wished to make a Bengali film. Perhaps that was why he came. But Aniruddha did not disclose anything else. He also said that, after clearing his backlogs, he might pair up with Priyadarshan and direct a Malayalam film.
With Dear Maa, Aniruddha came back to Bengali films after ten years. The film tells the story of a mother and her daughter, involving many moments and feelings of human lives. Jaya Ahsan plays the mother and Chandan Roy Sanyal plays opposite her. Shayan Munshi also plays an important role which is sensitive, modern, and philosophical, Aniruddha said. Anubha Fatehpuria plays another important role. Anubha previously played Shahid Kapoor’s mother in the film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya.
Aniruddha started his journey with the National Award-winning film Anuranan. Then he made Antaheen and Aparajita Tumi and produced Ekti Tarar Khoje. In 2014, he made Buno Haansh with Dev in the leading role. Then he went to Mumbai to make Hindi films.
Aniruddha then made the iconic film Pink which also brought him national awards. He then made Lost and Kadak Singh which were praised by the audience. His films have relationship stories along with thriller elements. Will it also be the same for Dear Maa? Yes, the director said that the film will have thriller elements. The shooting will continue till mid-June.
