Filmmaker Priyadarshan is particularly famous for his comedy movies and had given many hits in Malayalam cinema. Priyadarshan has worked with some of the biggest stars in the industry, including Mohanlal and Mammootty, and his movies are known for their repeat value. All actors gave a high-level performances in comedy roles when they worked with Priyadarshan. His movies have an innate humour sense and impeccable comedic timing that are unique in many ways.
However, Priyadarshan shocked his fans when he announced that he was done making comedy movies in Malayalam cinema. He said that he could only take 50% credit for his hit comedy movies, as the remaining 50% effort came from his actors who made all his jokes work. With the passing of several comedy icons, Priyadarshan no longer feels confident in attempting comedy movies. "They are all gone. Now I am insecure. I am scared," Priyadarshan said in a recent interview.
He was referring to the passing of comedy icons like Innocent, Thilakan, Jagathy, and Nedumudi Venu, who had played pivotal roles in his movies.
Priyadarshan has delivered many memorable comedy movies like Thenmavin Kombathu, Megham, Kakkakuyil, Vettam, Chandralekha, and Kilukkam to name a few. These movies are loved by the audience and have great repeat value. It remains to be seen whether Priyadarshan would change his decision or stick to it.
Not just in Hindi, Priyadarshan has also made a mark in the Hindi film industry with his comedy films. Some of his hits include Hera Pheri, Hungama, Hulchul, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Malamaal Weekly, and De Dana Dan to name a few.
Priyadarshan's latest directorial outing is Corona Papers. The movie is the Malayalam remake of the Tamil film 8 Thottakkal. The investigative thriller stars Shine Tom Chacko and Shane Nigam in the lead roles. And it was released in cinemas on Thursday.
