Director Anjali Menon’s much-loved Malayalam film Bangalore Days is set to get a Bollywood remake. The upcoming movie, which has been titled Yaariyan 2, will also have two Malayalam actors as part of the cast – Priya Prakash Varrier and Anaswara Rajan.
The film’s production house T-Series had announced the cast list along with the movie’s release date a few days ago through a social media post that said, “Cousins by blood, friends by choice!” Yaariyan 2, which will be directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru of Sanam Teri Kasam fame, is set to go on floors soon and release in May 2023.
Priya Varrier, who had shot to fame after her wink from Oru Adaar Love went viral a few years ago, has already completed shooting for two Bollywood movies including Sridevi Bungalow and Love Hackers. This film will mark her third venture in the industry.
Anaswara Rajan, who had starred in Malayalam films such as Super Sharanya and Vaanku, will be making her debut with Yaariyan 2. Anaswara’s latest release Mike marked Bollywood actor John Abraham’s debut production venture in Malayalam. The actress played a girl who was gearing up for her sex-reassignment surgery in the coming-of-age drama.
The first film in the Yaariyan franchise, which had Himanshu Kohli and Rakul Preet Singh, was helmed by Divya Khosla Kumar. The upcoming movie will have Divya, Meezan Jafri and Yash Das Gupta in the lead roles that were portrayed by Nazriya Nazim-Fahadh, Dulquer Salmaan and Nivin Pauly in the Malayalam superhit. Anaswara and Priya are expected to be playing the characters portrayed by Isha Talwar and Parvathy Thiruvothu in Anjali Menon’s film, which was also remade in Tamil as Bangalore Naatkal starring Arya, Bobby Simha and Sri Divya.
Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee, Jahnvi Kapoor’s Milli and John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor’s untitled film are the other Malayalam remakes gearing up for release.
