Three months after Lucifer released in 2019, Mohanlal and Prithviraj declared that a sequel was to follow, titled Empuraan (L2E). Fans of Mohanlal have been eagerly awaiting updates about the film. Much to their delight, on Monday, Prithviraj Sukumaran shared a photo on Instagram that revealed that work on the film is indeed underway. The photo is of Empuraan's script, kept on what looks like a work desk, besides a coffee mug. The actor-turned-director captioned it simply with the name of the film, “L2E - E.M.P.U.R.A.A.N”
Check out the post below.
Prithviraj had revealed earlier that the writing of Empuraan was completed and the shoot was due to begin. The team was on the lookout for artistes, locations and dates. “As usual”, the actor said, “I don't have any tall claims to make. We are attempting to make a commercial entertainer with Lalettan, which will appeal to all kinds of audiences."
Empuraan is touted to be a full-fledged commercial entertainer. Prithviraj has said that it is the success of Lucifer and the immense support received from fans that has enabled the team to have a big vision for Empuraan.
Lucifer became the first film in the history of Malayalam cinema to breach the Rs 200 crore mark at the box office, thus the director and producers were quick to jump on the opportunity to make a sequel. However, the project got delayed due to Covid and only recently recommenced.
Empuraan is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the Aashirvad Cinemas banner.
The 2019 Mohanlal-starrer Lucifer was Prithviraj’s first directorial project. He has also since directed Mohanlal in his second venture as a director, BroDaddy.
