Lucifer scriptwriter Murali Gopy had shared an exciting update on the superhit film’s sequel Empuraan earlier this month, and now its director Prithviraj Sukumaran talked about the next few steps involved before the Mohanlal-starrer goes on floors.

While Murali posted on his social media page that the he has completed the screenplay of Empuraan, Prithviraj said in a Twitter Spaces session organised by Netflix South that there’s still some way to go before the movie begins its shoot.

“We finished writing it. Now, it is up to me and Murali to sit and reach a place where we mutually agree, ‘This is how the film should be’. Then I start mounting the film and designing how I shoot the film,” he said.

Lucifer, which marked Prithviraj’s directorial debut, went on to be one of the biggest hits in Malayalam, breaching the Rs 100 cr barrier in the box office when it released in 2019. Prithviraj had then teamed up with Mohanlal for Bro Daddy, which released on Disney+ Hotstar earlier this year.

Empuraan is expected to begin shooting in 2023 after Prithviraj completes his pending commitments that include Kaapa, Vilayathu Buddha, Salaar and Kaaliyan. The actor also talked about the film’s genre during the Twitter session. “I have no claims to make, it’s just an entertainer,” he said.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj is also gearing up for the release of a ‘mass’ action-entertainer that he will headline. Kaduva, which is directed by Shaji Kailas, is set to hit theatres on June 30. The movie will mark his second collaboration with Vivek Oberoi, who incidentally played the antagonist in Lucifer.

Kaduva, which also has Samyuktha Menon, Arjun Ashokan and Seema, is scripted by Jinu V Abraham. Prithviraj’s Jana Gana Mana is also set to get its OTT release on June 2. The socio-political thriller will be available to stream on Netflix.
