Although it's not officially announced, Malayalam film Driving License is getting a Hindi remake with Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi in the lead roles. Interestingly, it's Karan Johar who is going to produce the Bollywood remake. For the uninitiated, the 2019 release features Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead roles while the film is directed by Lal Jr. Now as per the latest reports, Prithviraj is likely to co-produce the Hindi film with Karan.

Talking about the same, a source told Pinkvilla that when Karan Johar proposed the Hindi remake to the makers of Driving License, Prithviraj was keen to bankroll the project with him in Hindi. The source further revealed that both of them eventually decided to join hands on this star-studded project.

About the plot, the source also told the entertainment portal, "While Akshay plays the role of a superstar in this edge of the seat drama, Emraan will be seen portraying the character of a cop, who happens to be a die-hard fan of the Khiladi. The film is an ego battle between the two powerful men, which keeps the audience on the edge of their seat."

The Hindi film will be directed by Raj Mehta and marks his reunion with Akshay after Good Newwz which hit the big screens in 2019.

Meanwhile, Emraan will be returning to Dharma Movies after nearly eight years. The actor featured in the 2014 release Ungli which was produced by Karan.

The Hindi remake of the Driving License is set to go on floors in January 2022 and is likely to be shot in a schedule of about 50 days. The film marks the first outing of Akshay and Emraan on the big screen. The release date of the film is yet to be announced.
