Prithviraj Sukumaran has been vocal about how impressed he was with Rishab Shetty’s Kantara, which is already on its way to grossing Rs 150 crore worldwide. The actor, who will be distributing its Malayalam version Kantaara from October 20 onwards, has also roped in its cinematographer for his upcoming movie Vilayath Buddha.

Kantara’s cameraman Arvind S Kashyap will be cranking the camera for the Prithviraj-starrer, which will be helmed by debutant Jayan Nambiar. The movie, which is based on GR Indugopan’s novel of the same name, has Prithviraj essaying the role of a sandalwood smuggler and also has another pivotal character of a retired teacher.

Priyamvada Krishnan, who had starred in Vinayakan and Roshan Mathew’s Thottappan, has been roped in to play the female lead in the film, which is scripted by Rajesh Pinnadan and Indugopan. Incidentally, the movie, which revolves around an ego tussle between a student and his master over a priced sandalwood tree, was set to be helmed by the late filmmaker Sachy. The director was in discussions for the script before his demise.

This prompted Jayan, who had earlier worked as an associate director in Sachy’s Anarkali and Ayyappanum Koshiyum, to take up the directorial duties. The thriller, which is set in Marayoor, will go on floors on October 19. The film will be produced by Urvashi Theatres and has Jakes Bejoy as its composer, Sreejith Sarang as its editor and Sandeep Senan as its producer.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj has currently wrapped up his portions for Shaji Kailas’ Kaapa, which is also based on Indugopan’s novel Shankumukhi. The film, which also stars Asif Ali, Anna Ben and Aparna Balamurali, has him playing a goon. The actor has also shot for a few days for Prashanth Neel’s upcoming thriller Salaar, which also stars Prabhas in the lead.

The team of Salaar had on Sunday revealed the character poster of Prithviraj’s Vardharaja Mannaar, who will be the antagonist in the movie.
