Though it’s been five years since Shaji Kailas’ previous release, his two upcoming movies – Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kaduva and Mohanlal’s Alone – couldn’t have been any more different from each other. While Alone is a single-actor film, Kaduva is ‘mass’ commercial entertainer mounted on a big canvas – fitting for a festive theatrical release.

The latter’s latest poster also hints the same. Prithviraj took to his social media page on Wednesday to release its poster that featured the actor against the backdrop of a church festival, packed with crowds – something that has been missing on screen for movies that are shot post pandemic.

The film also marks Prithviraj’s comeback to the ‘mass’ entertainer genre after years. In a recent interview, the actor said that he had been staying away from the genre, but when he first heard Jinu Abraham’s script of Kaduva, he was hooked because it had a lot of new elements apart from the aspects that make for a ‘mass’ commercial cinema. The actor, who is also co-producing the film, also said that the film is made on a big scale.

Kaduva, which has Prithviraj playing a Mundakkayam-based planter, is reportedly set in the 90s and revolves around the actor’s character Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan’s clashes with the cops. The movie has Vivek Oberoi as the antagonist.

Jinu in an earlier interview had told us that Vivek plays a Malayali police officer in the film. “His is a powerful character who forms the core of the movie and it required an actor of Vivek’s stature to play the role,” said the scriptwriter. The movie also has Arjun Ashokan, Samyuktha Menon, Seema, Rahul Madhav, Baiju Santosh, Innocent and Alencier Ley Lopez as part of the cast.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj’s next release – Jana Gana Mana – is set to hit theatres on April 28. The film also has Suraj Venjaramoodu and Mamta Mohandas.
