Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran and director B Unnikrishnan are all set to team up after a gap of 14 years for an upcoming political thriller that is set to go on floors in 2024.
In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Unnikrishnan, who will be jointly scripting the film with Sharis Muhammed, says, “It's a political thriller that is also a relationship drama. The movie is based on several true incidents in the State’s political sphere. I don’t want to reveal too much because it will create a sensation when the content is revealed.”
Unnikrishnan and Prithviraj had previously teamed up in The Thriller back in 2010 and had Catherine Tresa as its female protagonist. Incidentally, Sharis’ previous script for the Prithviraj-starrer Jana Gana Mana was also based on true incidents and was a thriller that evolved against the backdrop of politics.
Meanwhile, the director tells us that he hasn’t confirmed if this will be his next movie, after Mammootty’s Christopher earlier this year. The filmmaker has also confirmed another project that is scripted by Bheeshmaparvam writer Devadath Shaji and is also scripting a film by himself. He is also in discussions for a few other scripts.
Prithviraj, who is currently recovering from a torn ligament that he suffered during an action sequence while filming Jayan Nambiar’s Vilayath Buddha, will be completing that film as well as Vipin Das’ Guruvayoor Amabala Nadayil as part of his acting commitments. He also has Kaaliyan lined up. But his directorial project L2: Empuraan, which has Mohanlal in the lead, is expected to take up the bulk of his time in the upcoming months.
The actor-filmmaker was incidentally set to travel to the US as part of the film’s recce, when he suffered the injury with just a day’s shoot left for Vilayath Buddha. Prithviraj will also be seen in the Bollywood movies – Bade Miyan Chotte Miyan and Zarzameen.
