Director Jeethu Joseph and Mohanlal’s latest venture Neru , which marks the second box office success for the duo and third critically acclaimed one along with Drishyam 2, has just dropped on Disney+ Hotstar. The film, a courtroom drama, presented another memorable character – advocate Vijayamohan that the audience has come to love.
Over the years, Jeethu has created several such characters – be it Mohanlal’s Georgekutty in Drishyam, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Sam Alex in Memories, Suresh Gopi’s Shyam Prasad in Detective and Asif Ali’s CPO Giri Shankar.
The final scene of Asif Ali’s Kooman, which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, ends with him getting a call from a team heading a new investigation. Netizens were quick to speculate that the case could indeed be that of Georgekutty from Drishyam in what would be the concluding instalment of the trilogy.
Other fan theories had also put SP Sam Alex from Memories as the senior cop heading that investigation. That it will mark another film with Prithviraj and Mohanlal in the lead, further added to the excitement.
In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Jeethu told us if all of these cult characters could indeed team up in the Drishyam universe. “No, those are just fan theories. Nowadays, with every movie, people come up with terms like universe and what they want to see. None of it is real,” he says.
Jeethu, however, confirms to us that he is indeed in discussion for a film with Prithviraj in the lead. “We are in talks, but we haven’t confirmed anything,” he tells us. “Similarly, I am also discussing subjects for a Hindi as well as a Telugu movie.”
Ask him if the Hindi film stars Indian Police Force actor Sidharth Malhotra and the filmmaker says, “It’s under discussion but nothing has been confirmed.”
