Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has two exciting directorials lined in 2023 apart from the release of his own filmmaking debut Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure. The two upcoming projects in 2023 for that actor, which his die-hard fans are waiting with bated breath, are his movies with director Lijo Jose Pellissery and Empuraan, helmed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Prithviraj, in a recent interaction with online media, opened up about the upcoming Mohanlal and Lijo film, which is set to go on floors in Rajasthan in January 2023.
Just like Mohanlal’s fans, Prithviraj said that he too is excited about the movie. “It will be a Lijo Jose Pellissery film. I know the subject and that’s why I am extremely excited about it,” he said. “To be very frank, even though I am a Lalettan fan, as far as that film is concerned, the biggest excitement for me is that Lijo is directing it. Having said that, when Lijo is doing a movie with Lalettan, we will try and bring out a fresh perspective of the star and the actor.”
While the actor didn’t let out the plot or the character of the film, he said, “It’s a challenging film. It’s a big movie and it will be shot entirely in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.”
Incidentally, Prithviraj was set to make his directorial debut with City of God, which eventually was helmed by Lijo. The actor then picked Lucifer, which has Mohanlal in the lead, to begin his directorial career. He had also helmed Bro Daddy, which again had Mohanlal as one of the central characters. Prithviraj’s next release will be Kaapa, which is directed by Shaji Kailas.
Meanwhile, Lijo’s previous directorial, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam that starred Mammootty, got an overwhelming response after its world premiere at the recently-concluded International Film Festival of Kerala. The film, which is set entirely in Tamil Nadu, is expected to hit theatres soon.
