Shilpa Shetty returns to Kannada cinema after nearly two decades

Looks like filmmaker Prem and his team are leaving no stone unturned in mounting their film KD at the pan-Indian level. Having already roped in the mighty Sanjay Dutt for an important role, the makers recently teased the inclusion of another popular Bollywood star who would come on board to play a character named Satyavati.
"A war is between Kingdoms, and Kingdoms need a powerful 'Satyavati'' said the teaser poster. Speculations were soon rife with many reports claiming that a well-known actress would make her comeback to Kannada cinema with Dhruva Sarja starrer. And the team, just as promised, unveiled the Satyavati character on the grand occasion of Ugadi.
Turns out the speculations were correct, after all, as the eternal diva Shilpa Shetty joins the KD cast to play the very retro and daring Satyavati. The actress took to social media to share her look from the film and also wish all her followers a happy Udadi.
The Mangaluru-born, Tulu-speaking actor made her Kannada debut in 1998 opposite Crazy Star V. Ravichandran in the film Preethsod Thappa (also directed by Ravichandran). The film turned out to be a commercial success and Shilpa Shetty returned to Kannada cinema about 5 years later with Ondagona Baa to reunite with Ravichandran on the screen. Her most recent Kannada film released in 2005 in the form of Auto Shankar, starring Upendra.
Interestingly, V. Ravichandran, too, stars in KD as 'Annayyappa' and one would hope to see him and Shilpa Shetty share the screen after the long gap.
If Prashanth Neel managed to get Raveena Tandon and Sanjay Dutt to star in the same film, KGF: Chapter 2, Prem has chosen to get Dutt and Shilpa Shetty, who have been paired multiple times in films like Jung, Hathyar etc., in the same film. While the KGF 2 duo did not get a chance to share the screen space, it would be interesting to see if Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty can recreate their old magic together.
