As the first Malayalam movie to break the Rs 50 crore mark since its release in 2024, Premalu is running successfully in theatres in its second week. Shot with young stars and a minimal budget, the Girish AD directorial is now one of the most profitable Malayalam films.
The film's performance on its second weekend at the box office has been greatly aided by the positive reviews it has received from both critics and audiences. Unexpectedly, the romantic drama turned out to be 2024's biggest hit. Despite not being a star-led picture, Premalu crossed the Rs 1 crore mark at the box office on its first day of release.

Because of the amazing response from Malayalam movie buffs on the first day, theatres added over 40 shows for the film. Premalu made an impression despite being centred around a well-known subject thanks to its great humour and outstanding performances by the ensemble, which included supporting actors and lead stars Naslen and Mamitha Baiju. Audiences are also growing fond of the humorous cameo appearances.
Shyam Mohan, Sangeeth Prathap, Meenakshi Raveendran, Akhila Bhargavan, Althaf Salim, Mathew Thomas, and others play important roles in Premalu.
The OTT release of the Naslen-Mamitha Baiju film is scheduled for March. Under the banners of Fahadh Faasil and Friends and Bhavana Studios, Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan, and Syam Pushkaran have bankrolled Premalu.
Plot of Premalu
Sachin, an engineering graduate, is shy and insecure, which keeps him from expressing his love, and as a result, his college crush rejects him. After going back to his hometown, he made the decision to finish his education in the UK. However, when things do not go according to plan, he naively decides to take his friend to Hyderabad to sign up for GATE coaching.
His life takes a sudden turn when he meets Reenu, an IT professional, at a wedding. He tries his hardest to win her over. Sachin finds it hard to express his love for Reenu because of Aadhi, the "gentleman," his financial struggles, and an uncertain life.
