Basil Joseph has had an interesting 2024 with several of his films clicking at the box office with Sookshmadarshini, also starring Nazriya Nazim, being his most recent success. The noted actor-filmmaker would be now looking to repeat the success in 2025 too as his Pravinkoodu Shappu, is scheduled to hit theatres soon. The film, which also stars Soubin Shahir and Chemban Vinod in key roles, revolves around a murder mystery. From plot, cast, to trailer, here’s everything you need to know about Pravinkoodu Shappu.

Pravinkoodu Shappu, touted to be a thriller, revolves around an investigation into a death at a toddy shop. Basil Joseph plays the cop, who is tasked with investigating the death, which is suspected to be a murder and the victim is in fact the shop’s owner.

The trailer gives us some interesting glimpses into what the movie could be holding close to its heart. The trailer begins with Basil Joseph’s cop character making enquiries about what happened at the toddy shop on the fateful night. Chemban Vinod categorically states that ‘Babu won’t commit suicide, it is a murder’. Soubin Shahir too makes an appearance and takes a dig at the cop in his trademark style.

Basil Joseph plays a cop in Pravinkoodu Shappu which also features Soubin Shahir and Chemban Vinod in pivotal roles. Shabareesh Verma, Chandini Sreedharan, Joseph, Niyas Aboobecker, Shivajith Padmanabhan, Revathy, Ramkumar, and Devaraj are also part of the cast.

Pravinkoodu Shappu, written and directed by Sreeraj Sreenivasan, releases in theatres on January 16, 2025. The film is backed by Anwar Rasheed, who is also a filmmaker, known for Dulquer Salmaan-starrer Ustad Hotel. Shyju Khalid is the cinematographer, while Vishnu Vijay has scored the music for Pravinkoodu Shappu.

Basil Joseph is on a roll these days and has impressed audiences with most of his 2024 movies such as Sookshmadarshini, Nunakkuzhi and Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil. His quirky performances have been a standout factor in these movies and the same is expected for Pravinkoodu Shappu too.

Earlier in an interview with OTTplay, Basil Joseph had said that it is ‘a character for which he has taken maximum effort’. Chemban Vinod and Soubin Shahir are also actors who have proved their mettle. With three of these actors joining hands for a project, Pravinkoodu Shaapu is expected to be a force to reckon with. Though a murder mystery, the plot presentation appears to have a touch of eccentricity to it. With its quirky characters and narrative, the film promises to be an engaging and entertaining outing.
