It won't be wrong to say Salaar Part 1 - Ceasefire is one of the most awaited movies of 2023. Starring Prabhas in the lead role, Salaar is written and directed by Prashanth Neel, who caught the country's imagination last year with KGF: Chapter 2.

A project, with such top talents of Indian cinema in its cast, shouldn't face any challenge in finding a streaming partner. However, industry insiders are abuzz with a different story. It appears that the movie's producers are quoting an astronomical price for its streaming rights, making it a daunting prospect for major OTT platforms.

The OTT price tag for Salaar is bigger than Dunki

The rumoured asking price for Salaar's OTT rights stands at a staggering Rs 200 crore, setting the stage for a potentially record-breaking deal in India's streaming history, surpassing even the digital revenue of Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming movie Dunki.

The OTT rights of Dunki, written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, have been reportedly bought by JioCinema for a whopping Rs 150 crore, the biggest recorded streaming deal in India to date.

Most-awaited movie in 2023

It's said that the producers, Hombale Films, are holding out for the right deal that aligns with their vision for the film. According to reports, the search for a suitable OTT partner was also one of the contributing factors to postponing its release.

Salaar was expected to arrive in cinemas on September 28. Even the teaser that was released a couple of months ago had reconfirmed the original release plans. The release of many new movies across the Indian film industry was either postponed, withheld or advanced as nobody was willing to afford a clash with Salaar at the box office.

Salaar release delay upset Indian film industry

And when the news about the delay in the release of Salaar got out , it left many disappointed, given September 28 is one of the strongest dates at the Indian box office.

Hombale Films has issued a statement regretting failing to release the movie as announced earlier. “Please understand this decision is made with care, as we’re committed to delivering an exceptional cinematic experience. Our team is working tirelessly to meet the highest standards," said the production house, promising to announce the movie's new release date.

Besides Prabhas, Salaar also stars Shruti Haasan, Prithviraj, Jagapati Babu, Eshwari Rao, and Sriya Reddy.
