Filmmaker Om Raut's Adipurush aims to bring the grandeur of the Indian epic Ramayana to the silver screen, a task not to be taken lightly. With countless versions of the saga, Raut has opted for the most popular one for his adaptation. The movie's synopsis has recently emerged online, shedding light on the narrative.
"Raghav, the prince of the Ikshvaku dynasty from Kosala, along with his wife Janaki and younger brother Shesh, embarks on a 14-year exile in the wilderness. Residing in the forests of Panchvati, near the Godavari river, their new life takes a treacherous turn when a demoness named Shurpankha attempts to seduce the brothers and threatens Janaki's life. After a failed attempt, the demoness is left disfigured, losing her ears and nose. In retaliation, the Demon King Lankesh abducts Janaki, spurring Raghav and Shesh to embark on a mission to rescue her with the aid of Monkey King Sugriv, his loyal companion Bajarang, and their formidable monkey army," reveals the synopsis.

Adipurush has a runtime of 2 hours and 54 minutes. Telugu superstar Prabhas takes on the role of Lord Ram, while Saif Ali Khan portrays the formidable demon king Ravan. Saif's portrayal of Ravan faced criticism upon the teaser's release , with many expressing disappointment in the unconventional styling that deviated from the traditional representation of the character. The film's visual effects also received heavy backlash, prompting the filmmakers to postpone the release from January to make significant improvements to the overall visual appeal.
After undergoing substantial cosmetic changes, Adipurush is now set to open in cinemas worldwide on June 16. The highly anticipated world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival , which garnered significant attention, was unexpectedly cancelled without any official explanation from the producers.
