Telugu superstar Prabhas' upcoming mythological drama Adipurush is one of the most expensive movies to be made in India. According to reports, the budget for this movie is pegged at over Rs 500 crore. And the filmmakers seem to be making a record haul in terms of non-theatrical revenue.
The latest buzz is that the filmmakers have sold the streaming rights of Adipurush to Amazon Prime Video for a record price. It's said that the sale of digital and satellite rights of the movie has fetched a whopping Rs 250 crore for the film's producers.
Cashing in on the interest around the movie, the filmmakers have also significantly increased the selling price of its theatrical rights in the Telugu states. Earlier, reports suggested the producers were likely to earn upwards of Rs 180 crore by selling the theatrical rights of the movie in the Telugu states alone.
Given the popularity of Prabhas and the anticipation for the movie across India, the producers are likely to make record-breaking money in pre-release deals.
With just 10 days left for its worldwide release, the filmmakers are stepping up the promotional events. The producers have planned a grand pre-release event in the sacred city of Tirupati . The planned activities are likely to blur the lines between a film event and a religious gathering. Religious guru Chinna Jeeyar Swamy will be the chief guest of the event. And a huge set of Ayodhya replicas has been erected at the venue, to underline that Lord Rama and Lord Venkateswara Swamy are the avatars of Lord Vishnu. And about 100 dancers will give a live performance of the film's songs. More than 1 lakh people are expected to take part in the event.
Besides Prabhas, Adipurush also stars Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles. The cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana is written and directed by Om Raut. The film is due in cinemas on June 16.
