The film, helmed by Pa Ranjith, marks his maiden collaboration with Vikram

Chiyaan Vikram is currently busy with the shooting of his next, Thangalaan, which is helmed by Pa Ranjith. The plot for the film is set in the pre-independence era and in the backdrop of the Kolar Gold Field. Pa Ranjith had revealed in an interview that the film is an attempt to gain respect for a community that had been suppressed for generations. Parvathy Thiruvothu and Malavika Menon play the leading ladies in the film, which also has Pasupathi and Hari Krishnan Anbudurai in crucial roles. The latest we hear is that the post-theatrical digital rights of the film have been bagged by Netflix for a whopping amount of Rs 35 crore.
The team had recently revealed a glimpse of the characters in the film, along with the title announcement. Vikram is seen in a lean and mean avatar and with long hair. Music for the movie is composed by GV Prakash. Vikram's menacing avatar piqued the curiosity among the audience. It is to be noted that this is Ranjith's maiden collaboration with Vikram. Thangalaan is billed as a pan-India release and is likely to release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. The film has been bankrolled by Gnanavel Raja's Studio Green and Neelam Productions.
Ranjith had revealed that he had conceived the idea of Thangalaan many years ago and that he had worked on the pre-production of the film for quite some time as well. He also stated that the film was inspired by real-life incidents that happened at KGF at that point of time. He had also stated that leading ladies will be seen in very strong characters.
Vikram was last seen on screen as Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan in Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan. The epic historical action drama is based on the battle for the Chola throne after Sundara Cholar falls ill. The film stars Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Trisha in prime roles along with Vikram. The film recently had its digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video.
