Emma Stone produced and Yorgos Lanthimos directed Poor Things, in which the eccentric and brilliant scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe) brings back to life a young woman named Bella Baxter (Stone). Bella embarks on a whirlwind journey across countries with the slick and debauched barrister Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), driven by her hunger for the worldliness she lacks. Bella becomes more determined than ever to fight for equality and freedom as she escapes the biases of her day.

At its premiere on September 1, 2023, at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, Poor Things received the Golden Lion. Searchlight Pictures released it in theatres on December 8, 2023, in the US, and on January 12, 2024, in the UK and Ireland. More than $104 million has been earned internationally, and the movie was recognised as one of the top ten films of 2023 by the American Picture Institute and the National Board of Review.
Critics and business leaders alike have recognised Poor Things with several accolades and nominations. The film took home two Golden Globes: Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) and Best Actress (Motion Picture) for Emma Stone at the 81st annual ceremony. The film received thirteen nominations overall, in addition to eleven BAFTAs (including Best Film), thirteen Critics' Choice Awards (including Best Picture), five nominations (including Best Actress in a Leading Role for Stone), and eleven Oscars.
