The film adaptation of the epic Tamil novel Ponniyin Selvan has hit the screens today under the same title. Maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam has helmed the movie which was released as early as 5 am in several screens in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Film buffs have been taking to Twitter to express their opinion on the much-awaited magnum opus.
The first installment of the two-part movie has been released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. The advance ticket sales in some of the theatres in Tamil Nadu have already shattered a few records by a huge margin. Movie buffs are going gaga over Mani Ratnam's making style; there are many who feel that he's the only filmmaker who can come up with a project like this.
On the other hand, there are those who say that AR Rahman is the pillar of the movie, and that he has stayed true to Mani's vision for the umpteenth time. It is his background score which has provided soul to the movie, opine many film buffs.
The performances of actors have been garnering unanimous response from cinephiles. While a few felt that Karthi stands tall among the cast, some others were impressed by Vikram's intense portrayal. Jayam Ravi's screen presence was lauded by many.
According to some of those who caught up with the movie's first day first show, it was Aishwarya Rai and Trisha who managed to attract the viewers with their graceful presence and subtle acting prowess.
Unsurprisingly, a few hardcore film lovers couldn't stop comparing the movie with Rajamouli's blockbuster movie Baahubali. While some of them said Ponniyin Selvan stayed true to the history and novel, and that comparison with other movies are unnecessary, there are those who felt that Baahubali was superior as a commercial potboiler.
