Mani Ratnam's multi-starrer flick Ponniyin Selvan 1, which was released a few months ago, had surpassed all existing box office records in Tamil Nadu, and emerged as the numero uno grosser. Movie buffs have been eagerly awaiting an update about the release of Ponniyin Selvan 2.

There were reports of the film hitting the screens as a summer release in 2023, but an official announcement is awaited. Needless to say, the second installment of the two-film franchise is currently the most-awaited sequel in Kollywood.

The makers have now come up with a surprise, revealing that they will be making an announcement tomorrow at 4 pm. While a few opine that the team is going to come up with an update on the release date of the second part, there are others who are sure that the announcement is with regard to the release of the OST.

However, the sudden surprise has kept cinephiles on their toes. The first part has grossed over 450 crores from across the world, out of which 200 crores were grossed from Tamil Nadu alone. The movie performed exceptionally well in Kerala and overseas markets as well.

The performances of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Karthi and Jayam Ravi earned praise from several quarters. AR Rahman's background score, Thota Tharani's production design and Ravi Varman's visuals, too, received widespread appreciation.

Jayaram, Sarath Kumar and Prakash Raj are other actors who garnered rave reviews for their portrayals. One of the much-expected elements in the second part is going to be the mysterious character of Aishwarya Rai. The first part ended with an episode featuring the actress in an unexpected avatar.
