The much-awaited trailer and audio launch of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus is all set to be held on September 6 at Nehru Stadium in Chennai. One of the film's lead actors, Karthi made the announcement on his social media handle. He wrote, "The Grand audio and trailer launch of #PS1 - September 6th at The NEHRU INDOOR STADIUM! #PonniyinSelvan #CholasAreComing In theatres on 30th September in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada! #ManiRatnam @arrahman @MadrasTalkies_ @LycaProductions (sic)."
In the meantime, the team has already released two singles from the film, Ponni Nadhi (sung by AR Rahman, AR Raihanah and Bamba Bakya) and Chola Chola (sung by VM Mahalingam, Nakul Abhyankar and Sathya Prakash), and both have gone on to become chartbusters. The lyrics for the songs are by newcomer Ilango Krishnan. Music for the film is by AR Rahman. The teaser of the film was released a month ago which gave a glimpse into the Chola history.
Vikram (Aditya Karikalan), Jayam Ravi (Arunmozhivarman), Karthi (Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan), Trisha (Kundavai) and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan ( Nandini ) play the lead characters in the film, which also has an ensemble supporting cast that includes Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Sarathkumar, Nasser, Rahman, Jayaram, Vikram Prabhu and Aishwarya Lekshmi. The film is an adaptation of the novel of the same name penned by popular novelist Kalki and revolves around the Chola dynasty and early days of Arunmozhivarman, who goes on to become Raja Raja Cholan.
While the cinematography is by Ravi Varman, editing is A Sreekar Prasad and art direction is by Thotta Tharani. The film will release in five languages- Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Tamil and will have a worldwide release on September 30. Ponniyin Selvan is considered as a dream project of Mani Ratnam, that he had dreamt of making all these years. The film will release in two parts.
