The most-awaited sequel in Tamil cinema, Ponniyin Selvan 2, has hit the screens today. Though shows in Tamil Nadu are yet to begin, fans in Kerala and Bengaluru are overwhelmed as their shows started at 4.30 am and 6 am respectively. However, the first ones to witness the magnum opus are cinephiles in the US.

The movie began there at 1.30 am IST and reviews are pouring in on Twitter. Film enthusiasts and fans of Mani Ratnam are saying that the second part is better than the first installment and that it is a perfect tribute to the novel.

Some of them have said that Mani makes no hurry in story narration and hence the sequences are slowly, but engagingly staged. Vikram and Aishwarya have stolen the show, according to a few movie buffs. There are those who opine that the climax could have been more effective though.

Fans of AR Rahman are going gaga over his background score and say that his contribution has complemented the storytelling style of the filmmaker. Ravi Varman's visuals is another aspect which many feel have done wonders for the movie.

Unsurprisingly, the actors are said to have delivered stunning performances. The unexpected twists are icing on the cake and the Mani Ratnam mark is clearly visible in many sequences, say Twitterati.

Fans of Vikram, Karthi, Trisha and Jayam Ravi among others in Tamil Nadu have their fingers crossed as their shows are set to begin in less than two hours. They are curious to know which actor is going to hog the limelight this time around. The trade is eagerly looking forward to the day one numbers in Tamil Nadu and other territories.
