Mani Ratnam's much-awaited sequel to Ponniyin Selvan has hit screens worldwide today. The film, which is an adaptation of Kalki's eponymous novel of the same name, revolves around the battle for the Chola throne after reigning king Sundara Chola falls ill. The film stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi and Trisha in the lead.

On the occasion of the film's release, the stars thanked the captain of the ship, Mani Ratnam, Karthi, who plays the Chola spy and commander of the army Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan in the film, dropped a BTS picture and captioned it, "Guru every moment spent with you is priceless (sic)." The actor had recently got emotional on stage during the last leg of the promotions of the film. He was hugged by the team.

Vikram Prabhu, who plays Parthibendra Pallavan, too, dropped a series of pictures on his social media handle, and wrote, "Enjoyed everything about working in #ponniyinselvan . Today we get to see the completion of the story. Grateful for all the wonderful memories on location. Now to watch #PS2 in theatre today! Best wishes to the entire #PS team #parthibendrapallavan #maniratnam #actorslife (sic)."

Trisha has always been vocal about how she is a huge fan of Mani Ratnam. During an interaction in Kochi, the actress stated, " Mani sir has a way of writing a heroine's role. He characterises them so beautifully that if you see any of his films, his heroines are always beautiful, they always stand out and are impactful. That's why most women want to work in a Mani Ratnam film. Even a well accomplished actress wants to work with him because they know they will look different in a Mani Ratnam film."

Jayam Ravi, too, had got emotional during the promotions and the entire lead cast huddled around him for a group hug. Trisha dropped the pictures on her social media handle, and captioned it, "A moment lasts all of a second but the memory lives on forever PS - I will always love you (sic)."

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, too, had thanked Mani Ratnam by touching his feet after the director praised her work in the film.
