Ponniyin Selvan is Mani Ratnam's dream project and became a blockbuster success at the box office. The film evoked big numbers at the Tamil box office but that was not the case when it came to the Telugu version. The film started with a negative talk and ended up as an below average fare in Telugu states.
Now that PS-2 is all set for a release on the 28th of April in a big way, things have heated up once again. But sadly, in the Telugu states, the situation is different. As there were not many returns for the first part, the sequel is also not getting any attention. Not many distributors are coming forward to buy the Telugu rights of the film.
Dil Raju, who put big bucks on the first part for the Nizam area, has not shown any interest to grab the rights of the sequel. This itself shows that the film has no takers. One of the popular distributors says that it would be shocking to say that the film might not even get 10 crores for its pre-release business.

Ponniyin Selvan was about the Tamil kings and had heavy Tamil flavor which did not fetch much audience here in Telugu. All those who watched the film during the first weekend did it as the film had a solid star cast and it is a Mani Ratnam film. So, this time, things are even dull business wise and as there is still time, we need to see if the hype picks up in the days to come.
