The second instalment of the Mani Ratnam magnum opus is all set to hit screens on April 28

The team of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 2 has been promoting the film aggressively and have been living out of a suitcase for over a week now. The second instalment of the magnum opus is all set to hit screens on April 28. During a recent interaction with the media, Karthi, who plays Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan in the historical fiction, was asked about Suriya and Jyotika's reaction to the film.
Stating that Suriya and Jyotika were very proud of the film, Karthi said, "They watched the film and said that they were proud of Tamil cinema. There are so many of us, actors from three generations, working on the film. They were proud of the fact that so many of us have come together to make a film. And they were happy that I was part of it ,too."
Jayam Ravi, who plays the Chola Prince Arunmozhi Varman, then stated that Suriya had a piece of advice for the team. "During the shooting of the film, Suriya sir had called us and said, "You won't get this time back. Have a great time and enjoy it." Jayam Ravi said that Suriya would encourage them during the shoot.
The film is an adaptation of Kalki's popular novel of the same name. The plot revolves around the battle for the Chola throne after the reigning king Sundara Cholan falls ill. The film's star cast includes Vikram as Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan, Trisha as Ilaiya Piratti Kundavai and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini.
The ensemble star cast includes Parthiban, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Ashwin Kakumanu, Prabhu, Lal, to name a few. The film is bankrolled by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
In the meantime, Suriya is busy shooting for the pan-Indian project Kanguva, which is helmed by Siruthai Siva. The film is being made on a grand budget and will be released in ten languages.
