The team of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan have begun their promotions ahead of the film's release on April 28. The promotions kickstarted in Karthi's hometown Coimbatore and during the promotional event, Karthi who plays the Chola commander and spy Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan, revealed two dialogues that were dropped from the magnum opus.
"Now that the dialogues are not there in the film, let me atleast deliver them here," he said, speaking at the promotional event. "There is a scene where Vanthiyathevan is going about his business when an old man stops him and asks 'where he was rushing to'. Vanthiyathevan replies, " Athu oru annan paiyan thambi peran sothu prachna'. It roughly translates to, "I am trying to solve a property dispute between an elder brother's son (Madhurantakan) and younger brother's grandson (Arunmozhi Varman)."
He added, "There is yet another interesting dialogue in the film where I compare Kundavai and Nandini. When they ask me to describe them, I say that Kundavai would go great lengths to save someone from going to hell. On the other hand, Nandini Devi would make you believe that you are actually in heaven, when in reality, you are rotting in hell!."
The actor also stated that Ponniyin Selvan has been a challenging film. "The biggest 'savaal' is that those who have read the book should like the film, and those who haven't read the book, should understand the story. In fact, reaching out to those who have read the book has been a bigger challenge as they constantly keep comparing the scenes in the book to the film."
Karthi stated that he has been receiving a lot of appreciation from his mother. " When my dad's (Sivakumar) Sindhu Bhairavi and anna's (Suriya) released, she watched their performances and just nodded saying, 'hmmm'. But she praised me as Vanthiyathevan in Ponniyin Selvan. I will cherish that."
