The audio and trailer launch of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 2 was unveiled yesterday at a grand event held in Chennai. Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan were chief guests for the affair which witnessed a few entertaining performances from various singers and speeches by stars.
Kamal Haasan, who was also the chief guest for the movie's first installment, was all praise for Mani for his brave attempt in converting Kalki's epic novel into a feature film. The Ulaganayagan said that many people refrain from making period flicks owing to their lack of conviction and confidence.
"However, Mani pulled it off, thanks to his vision and guts. Many filmmakers are scared to take a plunge into attempting such genres. I'm sure Mani also would have had jitters while making this magnum opus," he said, adding the popular dialogue from Kuruthipunal about "veeram", thus leaving the crowd excited.
The Vikram star revealed that many filmmakers are jealous of him for having made Ponniyin Selvan 1 in a successful manner and that he is one among them. He expressed hopes on Ponniyin Selvan 2 becoming an ever bigger hit. Bharathiraja was another guest who heaped praise on Mani at the event.
One of the much-awaited projects of Kamal is his second collaboration with Mani. The legendary duo is teaming up after almost four decades and cinephiles couldn't keep calm when Dhivyadharshini, one of the hosts at the do, asked Kamal to spill the beans on the film.
However, he refused to divulge anything on the movie and said that he wanted all the attention on Ponniyin Selvan 2 at the event. His fans are now looking forward to knowing if his voice has been incorporated in the sequel as well.
