Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 2 has indeed set the cash registers ringing at the box office. The makers had recently announced that the film was a blockbuster and it continues to receive heavy footfalls in theatres. In the meantime, director Shankar is all praise for the film. He has doled out a list of favourites that he liked in Ponniyin Selvan 2.

The Indian 2 director said that one of his favourite scenes in the film was the meeting between Aditha Karikalan (Vikram) and Nandini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan). He said that the scene made history. He was also in praise for Mani Ratnam's filmmaking, AR Rahman's music and Ravi Varman's cinematography.

Taking to his social media handle, Shankar wrote, "#PS2,meticulously crafted by Maestro #ManiRatnam sir,especially the scene with #AishwaryaRaiBachchan & @chiyaan who were scintillating &stunning makes history. @arrahman‘s music-truly marvelous! @dop_ravivarman ‘s frames were alluring!Kudos-all the actors,technicians and crew (sic).".

Interestingly, Indian 2 actor Kamal Haasan, had watched the movie with the film's director Mani Ratnam. It is to be noted that Kamal Haasan has provided the voiceover for the film.

Madras Talkies, the producer of the film, dropped pictures of the Ulaganayagan on their social media page and wrote, "From giving his voice to the #PS world introduction, to watching the movie with #ManiRatnam sir and @ThisIsDSP, our Ulaganayagan has completed a full circle in the #PS Universe!Thank you @ikamalhaasan sir for all the support from #PS1 to #PS2 (sic)."

Ponniyin Selvan is a celluloid adaptation of Kalki's eminent novel of the same name. A number of actors, MGR, Kamal Haasan to Mani Ratnam, had tried to make the film, but it was only recently that the Nayakan director was able to fulfill his long-time dream. Ponniyin Selvan is considered the most ambitious project of Mani Ratnam and is said to find a crucial place in the annals of Tamil cinema.
