The makers announced the same on their social media handle today. Madras Talkies's tweet read, "The #MozartOfMadras is coming to transport us back to the 10th century with the music of #PS2! It was only a few days ago that AR Rahman had shared a picture with the film's director Mani Ratnam in Abbey Road Studios, London. The duo have been busy creating the BGM for the film and adding the final touches to the album. The first single Aga Naga, a romantic number sung by Shakthishree Gopalan with lyrics by Ilango Krishnan is already out.

The single featuring the romance between Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan (Karthi) and Kundavai (Trisha) has already been released and the lyric video has been much loved by everyone. Interestingly, a tiny portion of the song was used in the first instalment and it looks like after its rousing reception, the makers decided to make it a full-fledged number. Needless to say, fans couldn't be more excited.

The second instalment of the magnum opus will have Vikram reprising his character as Chola Crown Aditha Karikalan, Trisha as Ilaiya Piratti Kundavai, Jayam Ravi as Ponniyin Selvan Arunmozhi Varman, Karthi as Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini Devi, the queen of Pazhuvoor. The film will take forward the battle for the Chola throne.

While the cinematography for the film is by Ravi Varman, editing is by Sreekar Prasad and art direction is by Thota Tharani. Ponniyin Selvan is jointly bankrolled by Madras Talkies and Lyca productions.
