The Ponman trailer begins with the announcement for a ‘duck-catching’ competition held as part of the church festival even as we see we are introduced to Basil Joseph and a bunch of friends.
The trailer then talks about 25 sovereigns of gold that have to be arranged for the sister’s wedding as more characters of Lijomol Jose, Sajin Gopu, and Deepak Parambol enter the picture. The characters of Sajin Gopu and Lijomol are shown in wedding attire at the church.
More visuals of the competition, church festival and a priest reminding that the sister’s wedding is set to take place follow. The characters are seen involved in a slap fest as the fight intensifies for the gold (Pon from the title). Basil Joseph also talks about not having bundles of cash at his disposal as the trailer promises an underdog story with a good blend of humour, emotions and drama.
Ponman, starring Basil Joseph in the lead role, is set to release in theatres on January 30, 2025. The film, directed by Jothish Shankar, was earlier slated to released in February but later got preponed. It needs to be noted that the Mohanlal-starrer Thudarum, with Shobana, was earlier scheduled for a grand release on January 30. However, the film is unlikely to release in January 2025 though the makers of the Tharun Moorthy directorial have not officially given a reason for the delay.
