Ponman, the upcoming Malayalam film marks the directorial debut of production designer Jothish Shankar. The project, which features Basil Joseph in the lead role, stars Aavesham actor Sajin Gopu in a pivotal role. Even though earlier it was announced that Ponman will hit the theatres on February 6, 2025, the movie was later confirmed to hit the theatres on January 30, 2025, after Mohanlal’s Thudarum moved out of the race. Meanwhile, the Ponman teaser is finally out on social media.

The 1.07-minute-long teaser of Ponman, which features Basil Joseph and Sajin Gopu in the key roles, suggests that the Jothish Shankar directorial is an intense drama. From the teaser, it is safe to assume that the much-awaited film revolves around the ego clash of the protagonists Ajesh and Mariyan, who are flawed in their own ways, over a huge amount of gold. From the teaser, it is safe to assume that both Basil Joseph and Sajin Gopu are set to bid goodbyet to their comical avatars, for Ponman.
Ponman: Cast and Crew
Ponman is reportedly based on the best-selling novel Nalanchu Cheruppakar, penned by renowned writer GR Indugopan. The film’s screenplay is penned by novelist GP Indugopan himself, along with Minnal Murali fame writer Justin Mathew. Jothish Shankar, the senior production designer who has worked in many acclaimed Malayalam films including Kumbalangi Nights and Nna Thaan Case Kodu, is gearing up to make his directorial debut with the upcoming Basil Joseph starrer.
Along with Basil Joseph and Aavesham actor Sajin Gopu, Ponman features Lijomol Jose, Deepak Parambol, Anand Manmadhan, and others in the pivotal roles. Justin Varghese has composing the songs and the original score for the film. Sanu John Varghese is the director of photography of the film. Nidhin Raj Arol handles the editing. Ponman is produced by Vinayaka Ajith, under the banner Ajith Vinayaka Films. The official trailer of the much-awaited film is expected to be out, in a few days.
