Ponman release date: Basil Joseph’s film to hit the theatres early; Find out why

Ponman, the upcoming Malayalam film marks the directorial debut of senior production designer, Jothish Shankar. The movie, which is touted to be a comedy thriller, features sensation actor-filmmaker Basil Joseph in the lead role. Earlier, it was announced that Ponman will hit the theatres on February 6, 2025. However, the makers recently confirmed that the Basil Joseph starrer is getting an early release, and will hit the theatres on January 30, 2025.

Ponman gets a new release date

Recently, the cast and crew members of Ponman took to their official social media handles, and confirmed that the film hit the theatres earlier than expected. “Surprise drop! No more waiting till February - we’re bringing the Excitement on January 30. Don’t miss out..!!! Ponman Releasing Worldwide on January 30, 2025,” wrote leading man Basil Joseph, on his official Instagram handle. The new update has left the Malayalam cinema audiences, who were eagerly waiting for the film, highly excited.

If the rumours are to be believed, the makers of Ponman decided to release the film earlier on January 30, 2025, after Thudarum, the upcoming Mohanlal starrer moved away from the slot. As per the reports, director Tharun Moorthy and his team are now busy with the post-production of the family entertainer, and the film is highly unlikely to release in January, as planned. Instead, Ponman has taken up the slot, as the solo release of that week.

All about Ponman

Ponman is an based on the best-selling novel Nalanchu Cheruppakar, penned by renowned writer GR Indugopan. The novelist himself has penned the film’s screenplay, along with Minnal Murali fame writer Justin Mathew. Jothish Shankar, the senior production designer who has worked in many acclaimed films including Kumbalangi Nights and Nna Thaan Case Kodu, is making his directorial debut with the upcoming Basil Joseph starrer.

Along with Basil Joseph, Ponman features Deepak Parambol, Anand Manmadhan, Sajin Gopu and Lijomol Jose, in the pivotal roles. Justin Varghese is composing the songs and the original score for the film. Sanu John Varghese is the director of photography. Nidhin Raj Arol handles the editing. Ponman is produced by Vinayaka Ajith, under the banner Ajith Vinayaka Films.
