Pokkiri re-release – Will Thalapathy Vijay’s action film recreate the Ghilli magic?

The Tamil film industry hit one of its all-time lows in 2024, with under-performance of new releases at the box office. However, things got better for the theatres with the grand re-release of Ghilli, the Thalapathy Vijay starrer. Now, after the excellent theatrical run of the Dharani starrer, Vijay’s blockbuster film Pokkiri is gearing up to hit the theatres yet again. The Prabhu Deva directorial is slated to be re-released on June 21, 2024, ahead of the crowd-puller’s 50th birthday celebrations.

Will Pokkiri recreate the Ghilli magic?

Notably, none of the yesteryear blockbusters that had re-releases after the extraordinary theatrical run of Ghilli, including Suriya starrer Ghajini and Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, were able to create the same euphoria among the fans. Instead, the cine-goers bashed the makers of these films on social media platforms, for the bad quality audio and visuals of these films. However, the makers of Pokkiri are reportedly very keen to recreate the Ghilli re-release magic on big screens.

As per the recent updates, the Prabhu Deva starrer, which was a remake of Mahesh Babu’s blockbuster Telugu film, is getting remastered on 4K digital format. The Thalapathy Vijay starrer is getting a massive re-release across the globe, especially in Tamil Nadu and the actor’s strongest market, Kerala. The creative choice to release Pokkiri ahead of Vijay’s 50th birthday celebrations has been considered a clever choice, as the superstar had no releases this year, so far. So, Pokkiri has all chances to enjoy a great theatrical run, just like Ghilli.

Pokkiri – Where to watch Vijay’s film on OTT?

For the audiences who have been eagerly waiting to revisit the blockbuster action film, Pokkiri is currently available for streaming on the popular OTT platform Sun NXT. You can also stream Prabhu Deva’s much-celebrated film, on OTTplay Premium. Thalapathy Vijay plays the central character Tamizh, aka Sathya Moorthi IPS, in the film. Asin Thottumkal appears as the female lead in Pokkiri, while Prakash Raj plays the lead antagonist Ali Bhai. The movie featured Nassar, Napolean, Vadivelu, Mukesh Tiwari, Sriman Anand Raj, Sriranjini, and others in pivotal roles.
