Prime Video has released a riveting trailer for the upcoming direct-to-streaming premiere of Pippa, which will occur on November 10 in time for Diwali. The film is an exciting account of an important historical event, the Battle of Garibpur, which took place in 1971 during the Indo-Pakistani War and was a turning point in Bangladesh's fight for independence. Ishaan plays Captain Balram Singh Mehta in the Raja Krishna Menon-directed film, which also stars Mrunal Thakur, Priyanshu Painyuli, and Soni Razdan. Ronnie Screwvala of RSVP and Siddharth Roy Kapur of Roy Kapur Films are the producers. Menon, Tanmay Mohan, and Ravinder Randhawa wrote the screenplay, which is based on Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta's book The Burning Chaffees. This tale of patriotism and sacrifice is set against the stirring music of maestro A.R. Rahman.

The Battle of Garibpur and the key characters of Pippa

Pippa is named after the nickname given to the PT-76 (Palavushi Tanka) amphibious combat tank. The PT-76 floats effortlessly on water, like an empty can of ghee. This epic chronicles the maturation of Captain Balram Mehta (Ishaan), a member of the 45 Cavalry Tank Squadron, through a journey of patriotism and valour during World War I. Balram Mehta and the Indian Armed Forces, as a unit, reimagine what it means to be a hero by fighting for the freedom of another country. The teaser transports us to the eastern front during the period of the Indian-Pakistani Battle of Garibpur. After their leader was killed in action, Captain Balram Singh Mehta took charge of the unit. He and his siblings served valiantly on the front lines, contributing greatly to India's eventual victory. Indian troops chanted "We fight like soldiers, kill like soldiers, and die like soldiers" as a rallying cry, motivating them to put their all into liberating Bangladesh.

Pippa's inspiration from Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta's book

Raja Krishna Menon said in a statement that when he read Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta's book The Burning Chaffees, he was absolutely certain that this inspiring and lesser-known story of triumph needed to be shared with the world. By bringing to life this story from our country's deep past, the filmmaker thinks they have made a fitting tribute to the Indian military. Ishaan, Mrunal, Priyanshu, Soni Ji, the entire crew, and every member of the cast who has given it their all have his undying gratitude. Raja would also like to extend his thanks to Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur for supporting his vision. He has faith that Prime Video will help Pippa find an enthusiastic audience in India and beyond.

Siddharth Roy Kapur commented that Pippa is a fascinating account of the Indo-Pak war of 1971 that led to the liberation of Bangladesh. They have no doubt that audiences will be profoundly affected by this incredible story of a complete family on the front lines of a war, thanks to the superb performances of Ishaan, Mrunal, Priyanshu, and Soni. They are ecstatic to have the opportunity to share this stunning story with viewers across the country and around the world, thanks to the reach of Prime Video.

For Ronnie Screwvala, Pippa is more than just a war film; it's a tribute to the brave hearts of India, whose bravery, fearlessness, and patriotism are the driving forces behind India's continued success and prominence in the world. Narrating a genuine narrative on film is never easy, but the stakes only increase when the story is about a war and its heroes. He is overjoyed that Prime Video is releasing the international premiere of Pippa straight on their service.
