It's been a couple of weeks of small-but-credible Kannada releases making a mark and films like Daredevil Mushthafa and Pinki Elli? have successfully indicated that there's a lot of talent to look forward to and bank upon for the audiences. While the former, which is based on a Poornachandra Tejaswi short story of the same name, managed to rekindle the power and potential of literary adaptations, the latter comes as a poignant and equally haunting take on urban living.
'Pinki Elli?', the Prithvi Konanur film, was a film festival favourite for quite some time before it arrived in cinema halls on June 2. It was noticeably a small release but by the writer-director's own admission, the team only hoped that the positive reviews would let the theatrical run grow and help the film reach a wider audience. Many would remember that Dhananjaya presented Daredevil Musthafa in theatres and was one of the main faces of the film's publicity campaign. The actor, who is currently shooting for an untitled film, is known to be a huge pillar of support for young talent in the industry and his efforts in mounting the film Orchestra, Mysuru, too, are quite well known.
