Pindam has turned out to be a surprise hit this December, banking on good word-of-mouth and critical acclaim from the very first day. Saikiran Daida made his directorial debut with the horror drama, starring Sriram, Kushee Ravi, Easwari Rao and Srinivas Avasarala in key roles. Yeshwanth Daggumati of Kalaahi Media produced the film, which hit the screens on December 15.
At the success meet held today, the team said that the screen count of Pindam has increased by over 350 screens in the first weekend. While it had a limited release in just over 175 screens, strong occupancies and footfalls helped the screen count increase to 400 in India and 120 in the US. The film’s performance has helped Sriram score a success in Telugu as a lead after 15 years.
“When I was having dinner with my family last week, I was discussing ‘never give up, no matter what’. The director was extremely sincere to his craft and was the true caption of the ship, minding his business, without shouting at the top of his voice or trying too hard. The producer did an equally commendable job in taking this film forward to audiences,” Sriram said.
“Ravi Varma is a gentleman on sets, but I was very scared watching his performance in theatres,” the actor shared. Ravi Varma appreciated how a young team - with a first-time director and a producer - roped in a quality lineup for Pindam and tasted success in theatres. Apparently, one of his friends in Vizag was surprised by the ‘housefull’ boards for the film.
The team admitted that critical acclaim and strong promotional campaign across various mediums helped the film’s cause. The director’s better half Padma Priya was the costume designer for Pindam, while Satish Manoharan cranked the camera and Krishna Saurabh Surampalli scored the music. Saikiran Daida, Kavi Siddhartha and Toby Osborne were the co-writers.
