After a long time, a true blue horror film is set to entertain audiences this weekend. Pindam, marking the directorial debut of US-based corporate professional Saikiran Daida, releases on December 15. The horror drama is headlined by Sriram, Kushee Ravi, Srinivas Avasarala, Eeswari Rao and Ravi Varma. Yeshwanth Daggumati has produced the film under Kalaahi Media.
The film is based on a gruesome incident that took place at a household in Nalgonda in the 1930s and the director felt only the horror genre could do justice to its interpretation. As a filmmaker, his main intent was to make a straightforward horror film without forced commercial liberties. Being a fan of Ram Gopal Varma’s Rathri, he wanted Pindam to stay true to the genre.
Sriram was particularly impressed with the team’s ability to develop a script, execute it well and release the film as per plan. While the actor was in two minds about the film’s ‘scariest film ever’ caption, he’s confident that Pindam would impress horror junkies. The film has engaging content and that’s its USP, he believes. It’s his second Telugu release this year after Ravanasura.
Kushee Ravi, who makes her Telugu debut with Pindam, shares that the film helped her fulfil the desire to explore a wide variety of roles and associate with a group of versatile actors and technicians. She put on weight for her role, was asked to look plumpy to play a wife in the 1990s. The actress didn’t find it a big deal to play a mother to two kids early in her career; she believes it’s necessary to experiment.
Bigwigs like Srinivas Avasarala, Eeswari Rao chipped in like perfect professionals during the making and braved past many challenging situations, practical problems. Ravi Varma opines he was destined to be a part of this film and said it was a memorable experience shooting for it. Composer Krishna Saurabh adds that the multiple timelines in the tale - 1930s, 90s and 2023 - will also contribute to the curiosity. Writer Kavi Siddhartha states that the premise around fear and the director's approach to the subject attracted him towards Pindam.
The producer shares it was his trust in the director’s work ethic for over a decade that convinced him to back Pindam. The team has been working round the clock to release the film this Friday. The film was awarded an ‘adults only’ certificate by the CBFC. Cognier Cine Creations is releasing the horror drama in the US. Kalaahi Media has simultaneously begun work on multiple projects after Pindam - of which one of them is expected to feature Siddu Jonnalagadda.
