More than a decade after the first film adaptation of Rick Riordan’s book series Percy Jackson & The Olympians came out as Percy Jackson and the Olympians : The Lightning Thief, Disney is presenting the tale of the Greek demigod as an original series, which will be available in India on Disney+Hotstar. Author Rick serves as executive producer of the series and has written the first two episodes of the series, which follows the same plot line as the 2010 movie.

The series follows 12-year-old Percy aka Perseus (Walker Scobell), who finds out he is a demigod (a half blood and the son of Greek god of sea Poseidon), and has to head to Camp Half-Blood, which houses other demigods like him. Under threat from the Titans (pre-Olympian gods) and accused of stealing Zeus’ lightning bolt, Percy has to fight off the monsters after him, while also trying to prove his innocence. He is assisted in this quest by his friends Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri).

Percy Jackson and the Olympians features a stellar ensemble cast including the late Lance Reddick (as Zeus), Virginia Kull, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Megan Mullally, Toby Stephens, Jason Mantzoukas, Jay Duplass, Glynn Turman, Adam Copeland, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Olivea Morton, Suzanne Cryer, Timm Sharp, and Timothy Omundson, among many others.

The first season of the series, will have an eight-episode run, with the first two set to drop on December 20. Rick’s original book series has six volumes, including The Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, The Last Olympian and The Chalice of the Gods. The sixth book in the series is expected to release in September this year. While the two earlier film adaptations did not stay true to the contents off the book, given that Rick is involved in the series , the plot is likely to remain closer to the original subject.
