The time we spend between the rumours and the makers finally confirming those projects has become our life, and at this point, with legacy shows and movies getting a meaty future, it feels like a new normal. That may be a little exaggerated, but you know the feeling we're talking about. One such movie that has been teased multiple times only to end up with no confirmed update in the past couple of years is the most anticipated spin-off of the already legendary show Peaky Blinders. The makers have been teasing the movie for a while, with even creator Steven Knight saying it is happening but with no confirmation. It turns out we are finally on the day when we get confirmation on this exciting news: Netflix has greenlit the Cillian Murphy starrer.

Talking to the portal about the Peaky Blinders movie and his excitement to hop on the role yet again, Cillian Murphy said, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me... It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”

The Peaky Blinders Movie Team

Tom Harper, known for directing Heart Of Stone and also being the man in charge of the first few episodes of season 1 of Peaky Blinders, has been hired as the director for the movie. The script will be written by creator Steven Knight. Caryn Mandabach, Knight, Murphy, and Guy Heeley will serve as producers alongside Executive Producers Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason. The team will be making the film in association with BBC Film.

Tom Harper said, “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive. Peaky has always been a story about family, and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”

Peaky Blinders Movie Plot & Production Update

It is too soon for confirmed details about the plot to come out, but we know the nature of the show, and the movie will not stray far from that vibe. However, Steven Knight had earlier told the portal that the movie would be set against the backdrop of World War II. Meanwhile, the report has also confirmed that the production of the Peaky Blinders movie begins later this year and the creators have yet to find a title for it.

All seasons of Peaky Blinders are now streaming on Netflix. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else in the world of streaming and films.
