Obeli N Krishna's much-hyped Silambarasan-starrer Pathu Thala, which hit the screens yesterday, has received mixed response from moviegoers. The film which boasts of a few veteran technicians in the crew has managed to partly entertain the viewers, thanks to the effective music by AR Rahman and enjoyable stunt choreography by R Sakthi Saravanan.

Farook J Basha's visuals is another highlight of the gangster drama which suffers from a few underwritten characters and lacklustre screenplay. STR's screen presence and Gautham Karthik's effortless performance are other attractions of the film.
As there were good expectations on the movie, film buffs were eager to know how much Pathu Thala would collect on day one. It was touted to be the biggest opener in Silambarasan's career. Several figures made the rounds on social media since today morning, and it was almost concluded that it failed to surpass Maanaadu, the star's previous biggest opening.
However, the social media page of Studio Green, one of its production houses, has now revealed that the project has grossed 12.3 crores on its first day. The tweet they have posted also mentions that the numbers are huge considering it was released on a working day and that no morning shows were allotted.
Unsurprisingly, fans of Silambarasan and Dhanush, who are often at loggerheads on social media, engaged in fan war on Twitter. While fans of STR claim that Pathu Thala has registered the third biggest opening for a Tamil film in 2023, fans of Dhanush terms the official figures as bloated numbers.
They also add that the Obeli directorial is yet to surpass day one numbers of Vaathi, starring Dhanush, which was released in February. While Pathu Thala released only in Tamil, Vaathi was simultaneously released in Telugu as well.
