Last year, around this time, Surangana Bandyopadhyay grabbed attention with her pristine performance in Anirban Bhattacharya’s Ballabhpurer Roopkotha. Based on Badal Sircar’s play, the plot has a deep association with spooky elements. But that was a horror comedy. This year, the actress has sent a chill down the spines of the viewers in the trailer of Parambrata Chatterjee’s Parnashavarir Shaap. The Hoichoi horror web series that is scheduled to be dropped on November 10 also features Chiranjeet Chakraborty, Gaurav Chakrabarty, Arna Mukhopadhyay, Anindita Bose, and others. Billed as a horror show, Parnashavarir Shaap will mark Bhoot Chaturdashi in Bengal.
Surangana, meanwhile, is busy touring the US for music gigs. Throughout a month, she travelled to North Carolina, Michigan, New Jersey, Delaware, California, New York, and Kansas with her team to perform during Puja.
Now she is all set to be back in Kolkata and excited with the release of Parnashavarir Shaap. In a chat with OTTplay, the actress confessed that horror is one of her favourite genres. “I am a fan. I am fascinated with horror stories,” she said. The trailer of the web series has already garnered appreciation. “These days we have seen, and read so much that it is difficult to scare people. All tropes are played out. I am happy that the trailer is spooking people out,” she said.
Talking about the show, Surangana said, “Horror is an underexplored genre in Bengal. There are films but not many. We have watched a lot of horror comedies though. This is a pure horror show. Parambratada is a fan of this genre. Also, I have always seen people either love horror or stay away from it. I have never seen anyone being indifferent towards it.”
Surangana has worked with Parambrata on multiple occasions. She worked under his direction in Shorote Aaj and briefly in Tikitaka. They were co-actors in Samantaral. They will be seen together in Suman Mukhopadhyay’s Putul Naacher Itikotha. “Paramda is super sorted as a director. He knows what he wants. He keeps cool all the time and never lets any pressure affect the actors and actresses. He is accessible and very comfortable to work with,” said the actress.
Meanwhile, it is some sort of a reunion for Surangana with Chiranjeet. Years ago, they worked together on a film, Jibon Rong Berong. Surangana worked in the film as a child artiste. “He was super chilled out. There was another young actor and he used to tell us stories like Sidhujyatha. He is the same even today. He is fun to be with. He is a fascinating artiste and since I also paint, we talked about our artworks. It was really special for me to be able to work with him again,” said the actress.
