It was earlier reported that a sequel to hit OMG: Oh My God! was planned and then the makers announced that Pankaj Tripathi will be headlining the film. Now, as per the latest reports, the film has gone on floors and Pankaj has joined the shoot today. Interestingly, Akshay Kumar will be reprising his role as Lord Krishna in the film and Yami Gautam has been roped in to play the female lead.
Talking about the shoot details, a source told Bollywood Hungama, "Director Amit Rai commences shooting for the ambitious social comedy today in Mumbai with Pankaj. The actor will be canning his solo sequences over the next few days and will then be joined by Yami, who plays the female lead."
About Akshay, the source further said that the actor has allotted about 15 to 20 days in October for the film shoot.
Ashwin Varde is co-producing the film with Akshay and as per the entertainment portal, they 'have been working for last decade to get the script right to take the story forward.'
The source assured that the subject and treatment in the sequel will be different and will surprise the audience.
For the uninitiated, OMG: Oh My God! released in 2012 and was directed by Umesh Shukla. The film featured Paresh Rawal in the leading role while Mithun Chakraborty, Om Puri, Govind Namdeo, Poonam Jhawer, Puja Gupta and Mahesh Manjrekar were seen in supporting roles. The film was loosely based on the 2001 Australian film titled The Man Who Sued God.
In 2015, the film was remade in Telugu as Gopala Gopala with Venkatesh and Pawan Kalyan playing the lead roles. While Upendra and Sudeep featured in the Kannada remake titled Mukunda Murari which hit the screens in 2016.
