Priyanka Chopra Jonas is in the eye of the storm once again. The actor faced the ire of several Indians after she corrected Dax Shepard, who called RRR a Bollywood film; she told him that it was a Tamil film.
Now, she is being schooled by a Pakistani actor, who has taken offence at her for referring to a Pakistani director as 'South Asian'.
Recently, Priyanka had lauded Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy for becoming the first woman and the first person of colour to direct a Star Wars film.
In a shoutout to Sharmeen on her Instagram Stories, Priyanka referred to her as "South Asian".
Her Story read, "First person of colour and first woman to direct a Star Wars film… And she’s South Asian!! What a historic moment @sharmeenobaidchinoy. So so proud of you my friend. May the force be with you!"
Taking to Twitter, Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui sent out a message to Priyanka, reminding her that just as she flaunts her Indian nationality before claiming to be a South Asian, Sharmeen is a Pakistani first and must be referred to as such.
His tweet read, "With due respect, @priyankachopra. Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy is a Pakistani first just to brush up your knowledge. Much like the way you flaunt your Indian nationality whenever you get the opportunity before claiming to be a South Asian.🙏🏽"
Priyanka, along with her other South Asian friends like Mindy Kaling and Malala Yousafzai and others, have created a community to help, support, and motivate the South Asian talent in Hollywood.
