Tamil star Karthi and director Lingusamy met on the eve of Paiyaa's re-release to share their excitement. Lingusamy shared a video of the meeting, where the actor-director duo reminisced about the blockbuster movie. "#Paiyaa re-release from tomorrow. Happy to celebrate the film with you all yet again," the director captioned the video.
With no new Tamil releases in cinemas, the film industry is relying on the nostalgic factor of past blockbusters to bring the crowd to cinemas. Paiyaa is likely to be one of the first big re-releases in cinemas as new movies have been postponed owing to the election season.
Paiyaa is a very important film in the career of both Lingusamy and Karthi. The action drama gave a much-needed break to both in 2010. Lingusamy's career had taken a hit following the commercial failure of Bheemaa in 2008.

Bheemaa was released amid a lot of hype with Tamil star Vikram playing the lead role. The film, however, failed to click with the audiences and received mixed reviews from the critics.
At the same time, Karthi's career also suffered a major setback when his movie Aayirathil Oruvan failed to achieve the expected commercial success. After making a terrific screen debut with Paruthiveeran, Karthi dedicated two years to Aayirathil Oruvan, and it came as a shocker when it failed to resonate with the audiences.
It was Paiyaa, a straightforward narrative about a man saving a damsel in distress, that helped both Lingusamy and Karthi to bounce back from their respective setbacks.
Paiyaa revolves around a happy-go-lucky guy named Shiva. He falls in love with a stranger girl, and as fate would have it, he gets an opportunity to drive her across the country. During the road trip, the relationship between Shiva and Charu (Tamannaah Bhatia) grows stronger. The film was a huge box office hit when it was released in cinemas back in 2010.
The stakeholders hope that Paiyaa will now help the cinemas bounce back from the box office dry spell in Tamil Nadu.
